Taking your time

Video transcript:

Taking time to do something slowly can sometimes be kind of hard, I think.

You know, when I'm in the boat shop sometimes I rush it too much. I want to be done, I want to complete that. I want to, you know, go go go!

But, what I realize, whenever that happens, I stop enjoying doing it, you know? All of a sudden, it's no fun anymore.

So I really try to take my time when I build boats. Because, otherwise, I could just as well do anything else to earn my living.

But I think, you know, being a person with a lot of things to do, and, you know, a busy guy, taking the time to slow down and to build something that has value for a long time and connecting with my body, connecting with the wood, the materials ... You know, getting in this state of flow where I lose sense of time and I lose sense of place, you know, I'm just laser-focused on whatever I'm doing, is just so satisfying.

And I think it is mentally very healthy, for me at least, you know to get into some place where ... where I lose sense of time and place and where I connect and disconnect, in a way.
